Five Ways to Save The Environment

What can I do to find ways to save the environment? Can one person really have much of an impact? Of course you can! You—along with concerned citizens, scientists, businesses and governments—can do little things that make a big difference. Here are just 5 ways to save the environment:

  1. Turn food into fuel. Ethanol is the alternative fuel that could finally wean the U.S. from its expensive oil habit.

  2. Change your light bulbs. The hottest thing in household energy savings is the compact fluorescent light bulb (CFL), a funny-looking swirl that fits into standard sockets. They only consume 1/5th of the energy as the old bulbs.

  3. Hang up a clothes line. 60% of the energy associated with a piece of clothing is spent in washing and drying it. Over its lifetime, a T shirt can send up to 9 lbs. of carbon dioxide into the air.

  4. Pay your bills online. Think about how many trees you will save.

  5. Open a window. You will save a lot of money and energy by using Mother Nature.
